What Is A Credit Rating?

Your credit rating is a number that many lenders and potential creditors use to decide whether or not to extend you credit. They also use it to determine the interest rates and terms they’ll offer you. There’s quite a few factors that go into determining your credit rating.

The Big 3 credit bureaus are TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. Lenders and creditors report their transactions to these bureaus, and then they access these records to decide upon an individuals credit worthiness. Some potential creditors will access just one report. Others will access all three.

What Is A Good Credit Rating Number?

The number that is generated for your credit rating is also know as your FICO score. Your FICO score is a number that ranges from 300 to 850. 300 would be bad, 850 would be great! This number is the easiest way for a potential lender to judge how high risk you are. There is a formula for calculating your particular FICO score. – the percentage of available credit you are using – how much credit you have open, and for how long – payment history and delinquent payments – size of debt and credit.

If your credit rating is lower than 550 you will have a hard time getting credit, or pay extremely high rates. Anything under 500-550 is considered very high risk. Once you get your credit rating over 600 you will have an easier time accessing credit. And above 750 lenders are more than happy to extend you credit.

It’s easier to access your credit report and FICO score thanks to the internet. Before you apply for a loan, mortgage or any other major credit, make sure you check your credit rating first.

How To Dispute Your Credit Report Information

Errors on your credit report may take a variety of forms from simple spelling errors or no new address reported to fraudulent uses of your credit to obtain financing for purchases. There are two different ways to correct or “dispute” this information; online or in writing.

If you need a credit report visit “An Overview of the Fair Credit Reporting Act” http://www.identitytheftsecrets.com/an_overview_of_the_fair_credit_reporting_act_what.html for information on how to obtain your free credit report and why you are entitled to one.

Here is a step by step process for disputing your credit report information:

It is important that you receive your credit report from all three major credit reporting agencies: Equifax-800-685-1111 www.equifax.com ; Experian-888-EXPERIAN (888-397-3742) www.experian.com ; TransUnion-800-916-8800, www.transunion.com: as different credit companies report to different agencies. Not all creditors use only one and the incorrect information may appear in different reports. You may obtain your credit report online for free one time a year, with each additional report costing and additional sum, usually $10.00. If you are obtaining your first free annual credit report it will include all three agencies, you do not need to request one for each. However, you may find it more cost effective to use a credit monitoring system with a yearly fee that gives you all three credit reports in one on a periodic basis which you determine.

Next, review your credit report and mark the incorrect information. You may wish to print your report out to do this – especially if you have several mistakes or errors. Be sure to record the name, address, amount and account number if available in your notes.

Third, write the credit reporting agency a letter indicating that specific information if incorrect.

Fourth, attach to the letter any supporting documentation to dispute the inaccurate information. I recommend that one of your attachments be a copy of your credit report with specific errors circled or noted in some manner. You may wish to number them and then address as each numbered point within your letter, especially if you have several errors or mistakes. For example, there were errors on my credit report that all listed a false address and a variation of my name. I provided proof of my name over the period of several years, proof that the address did not exist and proof regarding my primary address that was listed on one, as it was not my address but a rental property.
NOTE: The most important thing you need to do when attaching documents is to include COPIES. Do not send originals as you may need that information for another report or in the future.

Fifth, write another letter to the credit lender providing the information. Indicate to them that you have filed a dispute with the credit reporting agency (Naming it specifically) and provide a copy of supporting documentation of the dispute to that information provider also.

If you are using a credit monitoring system online you may be able to eliminate many of these steps. In many of the better versions of a credit monitoring system, as you pull up the details of each account it offers you the option to “dispute” the information. You simply click on dispute and it will automatically pull up the account information you are disputing. You then has a small amount of space to indicate why you dispute the information and click submit.

After filing either your written letter or online dispute the credit reporting agency will investigate the information and determine if your dispute is accurate or not. They also forward all the information you have provided to the credit lender. Usually within approximately 30 days a decision is made as to the accurateness of the information and the credit lender must provide all three major credit reporting agencies with the corrected information. Also when the investigation is complete, you are entitled to the results in writing; a free corrected copy of your credit report; and if you request it a corrected copy of your credit report may be submitted to other credit providers that you may be trying to obtain credit from. For example, you may discover the errors while attempting to purchase a car or home. A corrected copy will be provided to the lender upon your request. If your dispute is denied, resubmit it with additional documentation or contact the credit reporting agency to determine what information would be convincing.

Disputing your credit is not something you need to hire a specialist to do, and many of those “get help repairing your credit report” programs are scams that are used to obtain your information for their own identity theft purposes or just to make money. Remember, negative information on your report that is correct can not be removed, no matter what someone may offer. This is a simple easy process, which involves very little cost to you. The only cost you incur is your postage and copies. For just a few dollars and a little effort you can save yourself money and permanent damages to your credit report. It’s well worth the effort.

Sample letter:

* Date
Your Name
Your Address, City, State, Zip Code
Complaint Department

Name of Company
Address
City, State, Zip Code

Dear Sir or Madam:

I am writing to dispute the following information in my file. I have circled the items I dispute on the attached copy of the report I received.

This item (identify item(s) disputed by name of source, such as creditors or tax court, and identify type of item, such as credit account, judgment, etc.) is (inaccurate or incomplete) because (describe what is inaccurate or incomplete and why). I am requesting that the item be removed (or request another specific change) to correct the information.

Enclosed are copies of (use this sentence if applicable and describe any enclosed documentation, such as payment records, court documents) supporting my position. Please reinvestigate this (these) matter(s) and (delete or correct) the disputed item(s) as soon as possible.

Sincerely,

Credit Reports in Canada – A Solid Record

Since credit reports are so important in Canada and surrounding areas, you may want to know, how your credit reports are being used. You may also want to know how to dispute anything that is not correct on your Equifax report, because errors do happen and it is in your best interest to know how to reverse those errors once they occur. The information that shows up in your credit report is compiled by different agencies that report credit to a few key bureaus. In credit reports in Canada, the most prevalent agencies are called Equifax Canada and Trans-Union of Canada.

There are different laws both local and more global that these bureaus must follow, but the main thing is that they take information about the bills you pay and the debts you incur and report them so that other lending agencies are able assess you as a good or a bad risk. Members who report include banks, car companies, and credit card companies. These reports are periodically updated so that if you miss a bill or make a late payment, it shows up on your credit report. These updates happen regularly so that the information is always as fresh and current as possible. Credit reports in Canada will always be very up to date for the benefit of lenders.

If you find an error on your credit reports in Canada, there are different ways of going about reporting them. These errors do happen so it’s important that you know what to do if they happen to you. Incorrect marks on your credit report can be devastating to your future plans and goals. There is no penalty for checking your own credit through Equifax or Trans Union for a small fee, however be aware that other services that will do this may lower your credit score. Checking your credit reports in Canada will be able to give you insight into where the gaps and holes in your credit reports are and in any incorrect information you may not be aware of.

Inconsistencies in credit reports in Canada should be reported to the credit bureau by mail or by fax. You may need to continue to contact them to get the errors fixed in a timely manner. The bureau will review your claim and review their records. Then they will make a decision. You can appeal their decision if it is not in your favor, but you should make every effort to present new documentation to prove your claims.

Equifax FAQ

Is it possible to enjoy items removed from your credit? And what are some dutiful ways to recreate destabilized credit?
3 years ago I broke a bone and, like the smart, responsible guy I am, I wracked up prof usely of hospital bills which I neglected to pay. I thought I have paid them adjectives off finally, until the other year I was going through some hoary papers, and I found a bill for $558. I didn’t remember paying it so I got online and checked my free annual credit report, to find that it be listed on the report from Experian.com but not on Equifax.com. That make 3 negative items on my credit report, 1 of which is remunerated off, and the other is mortal disputed.. (Never name your child after yourself, it’s a moment ago bad news)Basically what I’m getting at is I’m elder now and trying to start again my credit and this is just another count against me. I’m getting it taken effort of right away but it’s still going to hurt my nonexistent credit. Is it possible for them to take the item past its sell-by date of my report if I ask nicely or something? I’ve have a very difficult time building credit because I enjoy no credit to get any.Advice?

Is nearby a allowance for disputing credit?
Is there a allowance for disputing credit if I write directly to Equifax, Transunion, or Experian?

Is This Article Correct?
By law you are allowed to dispute inaccuracy on your credit fileBy decree and The Fair Credit Reporting Act before placing any item on your credit database the credit bureau’s (TransUnion, Equifax & Experian) must personally contact you to inform you than an item is going on your credit report and record that conversation as proof that you be contacted, if they do not (and we all know they don’t) it deem that item inaccurate and for this reason is an incorrect entry on your credit file per the Fair Credit Reporting Act they must delete anything from your report that is incorrect.Amazing how they just don’t come right out and report us consumers this bit of information. It doesn’t matter whether it is really your delinquency or not. Rule 2: Once an item have been delete from your credit file it is improper for them to reinsert it and if they do you can sue them.

Mortgage Co. reporting delinquency as foreclosure. What can I do?
Countrywide is reporting to TransUnion, Experian and Equifax. One shows a delinquency of 90 days, another shows 120 days late, and the other shows a foreclosure. My home is not contained by foreclosure.

No Credit evaluation…How does that effect me and what can I do give or take a few it?
I was finally competent to see my credit score (and reports). On my credit ranking TransUnion lists my evaluation as 544, Experian lists is as 541. The odd thing is that Equifax list my credit score as 0. Why is that? Does it hurt my credit chalk up as a whole? What can I do to bring them to report a number? (Or can I even do that?)

Online Dispute next to CSC? On hold near Equifax for 34 minutes presently!?
I did an online dispute with CSC? I printed out my disputes. Has anyone ever gotten an answer by online disputing? If I mail this in to the company on a Monday how long would it purloin before an answer. I save watching my scorewatch and its been 28 days and nil has changed. I hold been holding on the phone beside Equifax for 34 minutes now!

Student loan needed for summer classes beside fair-poor credit ranking.?
Hello – my credit score ranges from 580 at Equifax to 610 at Transunion. Need a $5000 loan for the summer that I can earnings back by the conclude of the year. Any suggestions? Thank you.

Weird Credit Report Activity – Charge Off?
Like many others, I screwed up my credit as a younger man. I made a few mistakes, and cleaned up as best I could, but I concluded up with a ~1200.00 charge-off that be first opened on 09/2000. I know the seven year statute ability that it was supposed to age out within March. I pulled up my Experian report today, and it says it will expire on that date. However, I next pulled my Equifax — which did not have this rationalization on it before, and very soon it says that this 1200.00 reason has be first reported on 06/2007! That’s three months after the expiration date, and now it will run for 7 years! I live contained by NY — is this legal? Can I force them to remove it? HELP!

What are the address to folder disputes next to the 3 leading credit agencies, Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax?
I want to dispute several items on my credit report, but these agencies don’t make it unforced to find out their mailing address. I have done a furrow on line, but I’ve have little luck.

What are the phone numbres for Experian, TransUnion and Equifax?
I’ve applied for a Bank of America Visa Platinum Plus card. I’ve recently well-educated that the application is sort of on “hold”. They can’t verify my phone numbers from my credit reports (because they are old), and therefore can’t approve the card nonetheless. I’ve talked beside who seemed to be a credit analyst at BofA, and he said to give the name all three credit agencies, update the info, and find out from them how briskly it will take effect. I’ve tried a couple of them from phone numbers…but it’s never-ending recordings. I need a creature who can edit my credit report info. How do I move about about doing this as like greased lightning as possible, and what are the current (a lot of numbers listed online are older and don’t work) numbers for these 3 CRA’s? Thanks.

What cause my FICO gain to soar from 732 to 761 inside 6 months?
I am 23, no mortgages. I didn’t get any contemporary loans or close out any old ones. I own no loans out. The only entry that I have do beside my credit cards is for large purchases which I reward off almost hastily after they post (I do this for the cash back). I spent/paid sour about $2500 on one card. Could newly this cause it to hurdle 29 points? Both scores be from the same company too, Equifax. This is lone the 2nd credit report that I have run and added the FICO rack up on, so I do not know if these fluctuations are normal.

What is the easiest instrument to move about nearly seeing your credit report short have to reimburse someone to do it?
II’m thinking about file for bankruptcy and am wanting to get hold of a copy of my credit report before I in actual fact decide to do so. I be wondering if there is a process to get a copy of my credit report short having to wages somebody to do it. Equifax wants a monthly levy and I just want one copy. Nothing more. I would be greatly obliged for any help that you could lend me. I’m trying to gross life easier for my kith and kin. My past isn’t helping. Please minister to if you have any information. Thank you and God bless.
What is the mail address for the three reporting agencies for disputing credit?
What is the mailing address if I required to dispute credit with Experian, Equifax, and Transunion?

When a sandbank does a credit check, can they find out the balance surrounded by your checking accounts?
I know that on a Equifax credit report you dont see your saving/checking accounts. However, when you fill out your information just about assets and liabilities when asking a loan, they ask for how much money surrounded by your checking accounts for example from other banks if you enjoy. Can they find out that information?

Why am I not getting credit?
I ordered all 3 copies of my credit profile from respectively source – and they show only one deliquency from years ago. In certainty it is almost ready to drop rotten the reports. I only own 1 loan I am paying off and paying more than minimum eacg sum. I have one revolving credit statement (a credit card) that I pay more than min and on the dot every month – but the limit is one and only $300 – (unsecured). My credit (Fico)score is 20 points higher than it be when I got that $300 card and I own had it 2 years. I applied for store credit at Wal-Mart and be denied. I asked for an increase on the $300 and was denied. The notification said it was because of something surrounded by my Equifax profile, but I really don’t see anything there? And close to I said I am 20 points higher surrounded by Fico than I was when I 1st applied for the card to instigate with. Anybody know why? Has this happen to anyone?

Why don’t Equifax (UK) afford out a contact phone number?
Instead you have to spend ages probing to find out that to speak to a human being you inevitability to call 08700 100 583 and choose the ‘I am a business and would similar to to become a client’ option (number 2). Is it because: a) they are alarmed that we will find out that the best and fastest way to defy items on their credit report is to go directly to the lender that have the incorrect information listed and ask them to correct it next to Equifax directly, rather than wage money to Equifax to get hold of credit report details you already own from other sources, write to Equifax, have them phone up the lender, receive no feedback from Equifax (they are after all, panicky of telephones), have to salary AGAIN to get your updated report to see if they own dealt near your enquiry, start again, etc. etc.b) They are so entirely focussed on making huge profits for themselves fairly than providing correct information that they can’t afford to employ ancestors to answer the phone. You thoughts, please..

Why is Equifax credit chalk up the most noteworthy?
Everytime i see anything about credit score, they involve first equifax, like the others dont business. Why is Equifax so important than the others, i own a lower Equifax score than the other 2 bureaus, why is that? is Equifax more inportant than the other?

Will I hold a problem getting a credit card near this Fico Score?
OK Here’s the situation.. I have a FICO win of 663 according to the purchase of my Equifax credit report on myfico.comI own a “annual payment visa card beside a limit of $750 (increased from productive of $250) over the last year and a partly and WalMart Credit card with a contain of about alike (increased as well). I want to buy an engagement ring for my girlfriend. I have $3,200 surrounded by cash and the ring I want is $4700, so I obligation to finance the end $1,500. My best financial choice would be to get a credit card beside a 12 month 0% APR, so I can pay the $1,500 bad no problem in 12 months. BUT, I don’t want to apply for some of these cards, (Most are platinum) if it will hurt my credit win if I’m rejected. Will I be accepted? My be a foil for on the other two cards is like $100 total, I’ve rewarded them off consistently. (never late) but I am doing very well on past credit problems from close to 7 years ago. . Will I get rejected for these 0% Introductory APR cards?

Will my credit score allow me to carry a mortgage at a goord rate?
My question is will I know how to get a mortgage beside good rates next to the scores I enjoy now? I am 23 and my credit score are: 582 Trans Union, 552 Experian, and 545 Equifax. I have various medical bills that went to collection while I be in colllege. I hold been paying those medical bills hindmost a little at a time (I hold a payment plan next to the collection agency). And have two 30 days unsettled (almost a year ago) on my car loan, and a 60 days unsettled on a student loan. I recently applied for a topical secured credit card (which I hope to receive any day) and have be listed as an authorized user on my cousin’s credit card. My cousin have had her credit card for 2 yeas and have never been deferred. I am currently working with a ruling firm that has if truth be told gotten 6 items deleted from the three reports. So, my score are a little better than they be. I just be aware of that it is not right to be punished for getting sick (I had cancer) and not have insurance.

2 free annual credit reports in a year??
I know annualcreditreport.com offers free credit reports every year. I purely got one from Experian March 2008, but I next realized, after looking at my outmoded file, that I get one from Equifax on Oct 2007. Will they charge me for this?

Anyone know of a place where on earth i can monitor ALL THREE credit score??!?
i went to MyFico.com however, the scorewatch program they enjoy only monitors Equifax. Score monitor is not available for Transunion or Experian. Does anyone know a reliable true source where i can make a purchase of this?

Can a collector remove nearby given name from Trans Union, Equifax etc…?
I paid a collection sour in full a few months hindmost, but it hurt my score greatly. Of 5 of the things on my report, 3 are current and contained by good standing, 1 is remunerated, the other is recently remunerated but shows the 2 years of payment history. My gain is low, and i just read that i could own sent a letter to the collector asking them to remove the details from the credit history report with a finaly transmittal agreement… My question is, even though its salaried in full, can they still remove it from the report, or is it too unsettled to negotiate with them… I simply call the one that have been salaried for 4 years, and they said no can do, i have to lurk till 2010 before its taken sour, and i dont want to wait 6 year for the other one to be removed…

Can I request my credit card company to report grant history to adjectives 3 credit bureaus?
One of my credit cards only reports to TransUnion, and my student loan lender merely reports to Equifax and Experian. Can I request each of them to report to adjectives 3 bureaus or do they only follow their company’s policy?Specifically, can I require them to do so?

Collections item on one of my credit reports, how fruitless is it?
I have a rental property, and somehow the gas bill get in my describe. The tenants didn’t repay the bill for 2 months and got sent to collections, finally salaried it off. I realize what happened after I go to get a credit card, and get denied (from TransUnion). For Equifax, I had a verbs record and a FICO of 730. I am 26 years antediluvian. How bad is that collections item going to hurt me within the future? I considered necessary to buy a house and a car surrounded by the next two years, but if I can’t even take a Discover card, am I in big trouble? Do mortage lenders and coup lenders look at all three reports? I’m wondering how big of an impact this will enjoy. I mean the gas bill couldn’t own been that much money. Please backing. I called to dispute the statement, but I think I’m hopeless on that front. Will I not know how to get credit/loan s until 2012 (TransUnion’s estimated time it will step away)?

Continental Finance Gold MasterCard, can I do better?
Okay, so I was checking my FICO concluding night and I solely managed to clutch a 618 from Equifax (poor teenager that wants to work on it) so I only enjoy 2 things on it, a 6grand school loan that manifestly has no past due payments (because i havn’t graduated) and 121$ that I owe Bank of America for frees that I decided not to reward because of their deposit system created the fees because they do not deposit quite hastily. I know I need to wage this back ASAP, but for presently I wanted to work on a credit card. I applied for said above because it seem that almost anyone can get it. and I get accepted, however, after viewing the shady and misleading ways they treat their customers, I kinda decided that I could walk with a better company. adjectives I really want is no yearly charge because that way I can hold on to it forever. Can I do better, has anyone have any experience with this company? and if I do end, how do I go just about doing it? my Card hasn’t arrived yet and I guess canceling earlier activating would not hurt my credit?I also applied for a Cap One beside 17.6 Variable and no Yearly, they said whether i would be accepted or not would I would be official would come in 1-2 weeks (seems similar to denied)

Credit acocunts not reporting Experian?
I have 4-5 alive credit card accounts with some of the nation’s prime banks which are currently person reported to Transunion & Equifax credit bureaus. But, when I checked my experian file, in attendance are none of my credit card accounts are there except for one! I contacted the credit card issuers and they told me that they are reporting to adjectives 3 bureaus. I guess the accounts which belongs to me certainly are human being reported to other person’s experian reports guess. Please help me!

Credit cards that use transunion one and only?
Is there any credit card company or mortgage company that singular uses or checks your credit with transunion? Experian reports a 55 point difference which is HUGE! Equifax is roughly 15 points lower. How about someone that excludes experian?

Credit chalk up craziness!?
I’ve been trying to modernize my credit score for a few months presently. Two months ago I applied for a line of credit beside my bank that I don’t intend to use. My TransUnion ranking went up by 18 pts, Experian go up by 7 pts but my Equifax went down by 26 pts. No other information have changed other than the untried credit account. Then I lately corrected information which was with the sole purpose on my TransUnion report that released a tax lien that I rewarded off over a year ago. When that happen, my TransUnion score go down by 5 pts while my Experian went up by 2 pts and Equifax remained matching. I’m trying to find a pattern but they adjectives seem to be inconsistent even beside each other. Experian is the solitary one that makes sense to me. I don’t think through why Equifax would lower my score 26 pts when I hold more credit available to me and why TransUnion would lower my score by 5 pts. after I showed that a levy lien was compensated off. Can anyone create any sense out of this??

Credit freeze removal?
I put a credit freeze on my credit with Equifax a few years ago. I needed to capture it lifted for correct. I sent in adjectives the required documents it arrived on the 18th of May via certified mail to Equifax. How do I know when it have been lift? Would they notify me if something were wrong beside the process?

Derogatory credit win query?
What does it mean if something on your credit report is derogatory, but the set off is 0? Also, Transunion and Experian may have it imperfect as closed but Equifax has it as derogatory. Is this something that can be disputed?

Top 10 Tips to Improve Your Credit Rating Score

Why Bother Improving your Credit Rating?? Basically to save money, by obtaining better finance products (stop wasting money on high cost finance, think high APR’s), and stop getting rejected when you apply for finance products, which further damages your credit rating. This is even more important in a challenging economic environment when lenders are highly risk averse with their lending, and it is thus easy to be rejected.

In the UK the three main credit bureau’s are Experian, Equifax and Callcredit. In the US the main credit agencies are Experian, Transunion and Equifax. We all have a Credit Rating Score and it is often out of a thousand, and varies between the credit agencies. The credit agencies offer free credit reports, which allow you insight into the specifics, of your credit file or credit history.

It is worth checking your free credit report, as it is not static and changes, depending on your financial applications and activity with current accounts, such as payments on your credit card. There can be elements of your credit file, which you would contest, if you knew about, so that other lenders, do not mistakenly hold something against you.

Once you understand that checking your free credit report is very important so you know where you stand at a particular moment in time. Your credit report is also important for monitoring your improvements to your credit rating.

The following tips are some basics that you can action immediately and on going to protect your credit rating score and improve it over time:

1. If you are rejected for credit do not keep applying for similar products, speak to the lender and find out why they rejected you and check your credit report. Multiple applications lead to multiple searches on your credit file, which can look like identity fraud, thus making lenders weary of your application.

2. Always pay your current financial arrangements on time, if you can pay them off early do so, use direct debits or standing orders, to guarantee, punctual payments.

3. Make sure your current address is on the electoral roll, contact your local council to register for this, lenders check this versus what is on your application.

4. You need credit to get credit, so use some credit regularly, such as a credit card, always pay on time, this shows a reliable payment history.

5. Cancel any accounts or finance products you are not using, try to retain only the credit you use regularly such as your current account or credit cards.

6. Do not use the maximum credit limit you are allocated, lenders may question your ability to make payments.

7. Avoid CCJ’s (County Court Judgements) as these can have a seriously negative impact on your credit score. If you have a CCJ, try to pay it within one calendar month and then it will be removed from your credit report. If it is paid in full make sure it is shown as satisfied on your credit report.

8. End Financial Associations that negatively impact you, for example if you have split from a partner, and your partner has a poor credit rating and is connected to you through a joint application such as a joint bank account, contact the relevant credit agencies for a dissociation form.

9. Check your credit report regularly, query any irregular information with the relevant lender, set-up alerts related to your credit report, which updates via email of any changes to your credit report. For example an application made with your details but not by yourself, alerts you to identity fraud early.

10. Use Notice of Corrections, these are notes you can add to your credit report. For example if you were late with certain payments, due to redundancy or a divorce, a lender must take these into consideration, and are important if you are paying on time again.

How do you know if your credit rating has improved?

Once you have followed the key steps you will need to find out your credit rating or credit score, from the key UK credit agencies including Experian’s Credit Expert, Equifax and Callcredit. Once you access your free credit report, you can then pay for your credit score. Following the steps above it can take months to improve your credit rating but it is worth dedicating yourself to this.

It may be worth checking your score twice a year or just before finance applications, knowing this score will also help you apply for suitable finance products. If you understand for example you have an average credit rating you would not then apply for high credit score only product. Check your free online credit report now and learn strategies to improve your credit score with Credit Geeks and save money today!

One of the first signs of identity theft is false information or mistakes on your credit report. Get a free copy of your credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com from each of the three credit reporting bureaus once a year. Check your credit report for accuracy, and look for suspicious information that can suggest identity theft. Consider using a credit monitoring service to protect yourself against identity theft. This will help keep an eye on your credit history all the time, rather than only once a year by pulling your credit report from AnnualCreditReport.com.
