Best way to protect yourself when your wallet is stolen?

What is the best way to protect your credit rating if you have your wallet stolen? What services exist to protect your identity? And what service do you recommend as a single point of contact if you lose or get your wallet or purse stolen?

Police are first contact.Tell them exactly what was in your wallet. Then cancel everything else and have these reissued with a different number. Dont forget to tell the bank/banks too, and get new pin numbers.You cant stop the thief from using your things,but you can at least,limit your liability.
