The website with the word "free" in its address is not really free, in that you cannot obtain a report there without agreeing to pay for something. To obtain a report from that site, you must agree to accept a service for which you will be charged monthly. Although the report itself is free, the monthly "service" costs more per year than a report would cost, so you are paying more money with the "free" offer than without it.

You can obtain any (or all) of your 3 major credit reports at http://www.annualcreditreport.com for free, without agreeing to pay for anything. Only the reports are free at that site; the scores are not.
