Improving credit rating?

Thursday

I went online and viewed my credit report. I knew it would be low because I went through a bankruptcy about 4 years ago. I found out that I had several credit card sitting at a zero balance that I hadn’t used in years. I guess potential debt effect your credit negatively as well. But there are a few things on there that I don’t have a clue what they are. I think they were turned over to bill collectors and that’s why I don’t recognize the names…..one was "American Capital Ent.". I haven’t the foggiest what that is. How can I improve my credit score? It’s right at 600.

I would suggest you try to contact the agency where you got your rating from.

boy can I help you on this one follow these steps and you will be on your way:
    1) there are three main agiencies that run credit reports they are: Experian, Trans Union, and Equifaxm you can look them up on line, you by law are allowed one free credit report per year but you must contact each agency to get your report or you can pay a service to get all your credit reports.
    2) you are allowed to dispute any information that is incorrect on your credit report this has do be done in writting, or you can do it on the internet at each agncy sight.
    3) Bankruptcies can only stay on your credit report for up to 10 years than they have to be removed
    4) applying for any type of credit will reduce points off your credit report only aplly for credit when needed, this includes rental companies or buying cars, credit cards ( extra)
5)reduce all your credit cards, use a prepaid card this will build your credit rating
    6) make all your car payments, house payments on time and even pay a little extra if you can this will in the end reduce your intrerest and pay off the debt faster.
    7) use credit when needed, pay cah for everything possible.
    8) go to your bank and take out a small loan if you can, put the loan money in an intrest savings account at another bank, make the monthly payments on time for this loan, make sure to do this for at least 6 months, use the savings account to make the payments but don’t touch the money you want the intrest, this way your building your credit with borrowed money, your getting paid intrest, offseting your payment to the loan. Most companies report on a monthly or quartly, or even every six months to a credit agency so it may take a little time to build your credit.
    9) Most important keep your debt to income level at a level you can handle and don’t go overboard, if you repet step #8 with a few small loans over 6 months you will see your credit score go up!
600to 650 is an average score for most people, to get a home loan most lenders want you around 680.
    10) federal laws also mandiate thjese credit agencies under the Fair Credit Act laws, you can get a copy from the goverment or a book store. I recommed it it !
    11) Just for your info my score was a loew 400′s and I have built it up using these methods to the 600 hundreds, but has taken me about a year and half to do it, I use a agency online to keep track of my creit scores, they notify me if there is a problem also, it;s a great service runs around $30.00 month.

You do need to get a credit monotoring service just so you can check your credit score to see if it is going up. However you can repair your credit yourself. Go to creditboards.com It is a free forum for people who have gone through the exact same thing as you. I have used it and built my credit up. Go there before you sign up for anything. They will tell you exactly what you need to do to get your credit score up. Also it is not a advertising site so you won’t get people trying to sell you anything. It is just people who have been in the same situation as you or people who are currently trying to better their credit score. good luck. And if you need any credit cards secured or otherwise to help start rebuiilding a positive credit history feel free to visit
http://creditcardwarehouseonline.com THey have all the card catorgirized and you can compare the rates there
