How do I get a credit rating? I have never had a credit card.?

Friday

So when I try to run my credit, they ask me for my card no# and I can't get any farther than that. I want to get it online, not thru my bank.
I have never had a credit card and I want to know my credit score, I can't get past the enter your card no. part.

Experian, TransUnion and Equifax are three companies that provide a credit report. I think the law still states that they have to provide any consumer with one free report per year.

I run the report through each company at various times in the year. For example, I get a report from Experian in February, an updated report from TransUnion in July and another from Equifax in October.

These free reports don't actually show your "credit score", they just show you your credit report. The report tells you with whom you have had credit, if your account is in good standing, and if you made your payments on time, etc.

You have to pay if you want your actual "credit score". I only do this once a year, if that. They usually each charge about $7-$15 for the score.

There are some offers for more (like bundling all your reports into one), but they cost more (e.g. $40) and I think they waste your free reports.

I suggest slowly building your credit, starting with a steady income. I started with a department store credit card with a low ($300) limit and built up from there. That was years ago, so now I'm striving to live debt-free (except for a mortgage payment for my home).

Go to a bank and ask for a Secure Credit Card, after you use it for half year and you will get your credit increase.
I suggest you to apply one on capitalone.

A great place to start is CapitalOne, they are usually a bit more willing to give a card to someone without credit.

Take my advice, though: Don't screw up your credit, make sure you pay at least what you owe each month. It'll haunt you if you don't :-)

If you have never had a credit card, you don't HAVE a credit rating. The whole point of a credit rating is to rate how well you have handled credit in the past, and whether you currently have a reasonable amount of debt, or too much. It's like asking, how can I get a grade in Economics 101, when you aren't taking the course.

If you're asking how you can ESTABLISH credit, then you must first get a credit card, or borrow money, or get a car loan, or something.

Many things determine a credit rating. Take out a small loan with a co-signer and then pay it back quickly. That will help you establish credit.

Get a credit card, spend a little each month but clear the balance with every bill, this way your credit rating will improve.

Try getting a Visa Gift Card. You can use it to buy your credit reports online. Just visit a participating bank and you can pay cash for it.
