Can somone be denied a rental car because of a bad credit rating?
A friend of mine with bad credit tried to reserve a rental car online. Within 24 hours they responded that "your rental vehicle will not be available for your requested period" and that he would need to try with a different rental agency. Do rental car agencies run credit checks? Their response sounds to me like a polite way of saying that they didn't want his business since they didn't try to offer him another car.
Usually a bad rating would not matter. If he has a credit card, the rental car will be billed to the card. The rental car place would get paid. But if he did not return a previous car; or he skipped out on rental car bills…. they would be worried about renting to him.
Or they could be short of rental cars for the time he requested. Maybe there is a convention in town; that's when they didn't have a car for me..
No they process the credit card that was used for the reservation. The credit card company refused the transaction.

If she was trying to reserve using a debit card, they run credirt checks. Also if the credit card does have $500 available they will deny the request.
