Some will simply do background checks (for evicitions and such). I have known people with dreadful credit get into places with ease. This situation all depends on the level of competition from other applicants. If someone with a bunch of cash and spotless credit comes along then you would lose out anyway. I was in the same boat. My girlfriend much better credit, I had the better work history (i.e. amount of years on the job and annual salary.)
