What kind of credit score does one need to be approved in an apartments credit check?

Tuesday

I am a single mother looking for an apartment. I found a great place in the same school district as my kids are in now. They said they will run a credit check and that will determine my qualification. If it comes back conditional, I will have to pay an increased security. If it comes back denied, I won’t get the apartment. Does anyone know what score these credit checks look for??

Probably a 600+ Also, you can have a higher score and still be turned down, if for instance you have any real ‘baddies’ (foreclosure, bankruptcy, judgments, etc).

You could ask them what their criteria is for approval. They may not base it solely on your credit score. I would imagine your income would be a large part of that determining factor.

It depends on the apartment. Obviously people with low credit scores still have a place to live, so even if that apartment says no, someone else will say yes. If your credit is poor, look for smaller landlords who are more concerned about your income and rental history. Paying a credit card late SHOULD be nothing compared to an eviction, but some big apartment complexes have rules set up by the company that they won’t bend.

The credit check factor will depend on the apartment property. Just a general knowledge, because of the downfall in the economy, most apartments are relax with the credit check rule right now. They may require you to have at least 500, which will not qualify you to get a credit card, but prove that you have some sort of credit. Also, the apartment may require you to pay a high deposit up to 1 month rent i have seen. If this specific apartment deny you, then I would suggest that you contact an apartment locator in your city and explain your situation. They probably have a list of properties who will work with you.
