What is the reasoning for going through a credit check to open a CD account?

Tuesday

I would like to save my money in today's tough economy by opening a CD account but i was rejected by a bank due to a credit check. Are there banks available that doesn't make a credit check a requirement?

I can understand the reasoning behind a credit check to open a checking account, but not to open a CD account. That's just ridiculous.

Basically what it comes down to is the apparently do not want to pay you any interest. The banks are being very strange right now.

My friend mentioned that she uses Bank of America for all of her banking because they do not require a credit check. You may want to try there.
