What are my options for a lease with my girlfriend when she failed the credit check?

My girlfriend and I are getting an apartment together. She failed her credit application and thus has to go on the lease as an occupant. I passed my check with flying colors and such we are getting the apartment.
I would like to safeguard myself should something go sour in the relationship. Is there anythign I can do so as to protect myself? I have the money to cover the rent should someting go wrong but I would like to avoid that with a lease type document.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Make sure she gives YOU a deposit in case she cuts out of the apt and your left with the bills and rent. Good idea to always protect yourself.

You can type up a joint agreement stating that though she did not meet the credit requirements, she is still a renter and as such has equal rights and responsibilities to the agreement. Have it notarized and file a copy somewhere where only you know where it is!
