Are there cellphone providers whose coverage is in California, with no credit check?

I have verizon wireless, and am looking to switch to a company that won't make you pay 1,000 for a deposit after credit check. Are there any companies, that have service in California, that have decent features without gouging you?

Prepaids for sure. I think T-Mobile also qualifies. Have never had that problem with any carrier.
