Does an overdraft (insufficient funds) on my checking account affect negatively on my FICO credit score?

Tuesday

My ex-wife just closed our checking account but forgot about one automatic payment so we received a letter of insufficient funds. Will this overdraft affect negatively on my FICO credit score.

No, it won't affect your FICO score, however it could get reported to ChexSystems which is similar to a credit bureau for checking and savings accounts. The only way that if would hurt your FICO score would be if you the overdraft went unpaid and the account was charged off with a negative balance.

No. If yo do not pay the negative in your account, the bank will report you to the CHEXSYSTEM . This is like a database of all the banks that reports account who went negative and did not settle it.(Like a credit bureau of some sort) The worst case that could happen to you is, you will not be able to open a checking account in any bank here in the US. Some other banks will allow you to open a checking account after 2 years you got reported to the CHEXSYSTEM. So, try to settle your as soon as possible.

Not if you promptly pay the overdraft and any fees.
